A Few Words From The New RC
I have heard from all of our Sector Chiefs and now know who wants to serve
the remainder of their term and who wishes to take this time to vacate their

position. With regrets, I accepted Sonny Wright's resignation as PA Sector
Chief and I wish to thank him for his service to the region in that
capacity. PA
chapters will be contacted within the next week to discuss options for
determining a replacement for Sonny.
The same will be done with the NJ Sector chapters, since Bob Vosseller has
vacated the Sector Chief position there in order to fulfill his obligations
as
our VRC.
I will be making a posting soon to the CO List to discuss a resolution that
has come before the AB for discussion and eventual voting. I will give my
opinion on the resolution in question and await feedback from the chapter
COs.
Based upon that feedback, I will announce on the CO List how I will vote for

the region when it comes time for the RCs to cast said votes. When the
outcome
of the voting has been announced to us, I will then make that known on the
CO List. This is an effort to keep the region as involved as possible in
what'
s going on J
Some TIVO talk
In my role as vice regional coordinator/TIVO I contacted several chapters
this week that are in need of executive officers. Some have replied already
and
informed me that the situation is either being taken care of or that a
records issue incorrectly listed them as not having a #1. We just wanted to
make
sure that the matter was being looked into. XOs are important people to have

around. In fact my XO who is now also serving as R7 Chief of Staff will have

the keys to the Challenger as of Thursday when USS Challenger Counselor
Emily
Vosseller (aka: my wife) and I head to the Region 18 Summit in Cozumel. The
Margarita Summit will consist of all the Starfleet members in Mexico…which I

imagine will end up being Emily and I but we'll definitely think of
Starfleet
when we toast a few drinks during our vacation…the summit. We'll be back the

following week.
Getting back to business the deadline for applications for R7 Shoc Officer
ended yesterday. An announcement will be made later today concerning the
candidate selected. Wayne, Jeff and I want to thank the interested
candidates who
came forward and I have full faith in the person who was chosen. That person

is being notified of their selection and as such we think they should read
it
first via direct contact.

MORE HELP WANTED! A Few Words from our Chief of Staff
Region 7 is hiring again! This time, we're looking for outgoing, organized
individuals to serve as Sector Recruiting Officers. These positions, which
report to the Regional Recruitment Director, will be for New York (Sector 1)
and
New Jersey (Sector 2). This is a great opportunity to get more involved on
the Regional level and get experience working with many different chapters.
Purpose:
-Provides advice, resources, opportunities, guidance and materials to
chapters to help chapters in their overall effort to recruit more members.

Required Duties:
-Be available to chapters in the assigned sector via telephone, e-mail and
US mail to assist chapters.
-Works with Sector Chiefs, Chapter Care and the Regional ShOC Officer
to proactively contact and assist chapters in training and those who are
under strength, on standby or drydocked.
-Works with chapters to develop customized recruiting plans based on their
needs.
-Creates, maintains and distributes recruiting materials such as flyers and
electronic presentations.
-Maintains a listing of all events which could be recruitment opportunities
and distributes information via regional electronic mail lists.
-Coordinates recruitment efforts at multi-chapter events in their sector,
such as major conventions.
-Participates in all recruitment and regional staff meetings.
-Makes a monthly report to the Recruitment Director
-May make monthly reports to the Chief of Staff on behalf of the
recruitment director.

Qualifications:
-Must be a member in good standing of Starfleet and be either assigned to a
chapter, a chapter-in-training or be an unassigned member within R7 and
reside in the sector you are applying for.
-Have recruiting experience on the chapter, regional or international level.
-Must be able to travel to major events in the sector to direct
recruitment efforts.
-OTS/OCC is preferred, but not required.
-Must have passed or be willing to pass within 60 days, the Recruiting 101
Course, offered by Starfleet Academy.

Rest in Peace Mara
This week the region learned of a great loss by an old friend. Mara
Yoresh-Rivera, 37, died of Colon cancer earlier this week. A memorial
service was
held on Wednesday night in North Jersey where family and friends gathered to

say goodbye. Mara was the first XO of the USS Justice and was well known for

her quick with and sense of humor. I'll remember her as someone who always
made
me laugh and had a great sense of fun. You left us too soon Mara but you
will be remembered.
Maryland Ren Festival season to start soon
The Maryland Renaissance Festival is just about here. The 2008 season begins

the weekend of Aug. 23 and will end on the weekend of Oct.18. Popular events

include the Scottish Celebration Weekend event and the Pirates Adventure
weekend in September. Post to the R7 list if your chapter plans to go.
Plan for a horrific time!
Another scary reminder that the latest Monstermania Con will be held on Aug.

22-24 in Cherry Hill N.J. I know I plan to attend at least one day of this
con and hope to see some of you there. Contact me and let me know if you

More Summer Fun!
The USS Justice will be having it's annual picnic this Saturday, Aug. 2, at
Lake Parsippany Park, NJ starting at
noon. All members of Region 7 are welcome to attend as the ship cooks up
some burgers, hot dogs, and other foods as well. The crew will be playing
various games including bocce ball. Your are encouraged to bring some games
as All

The third installment of the Mummy movies is in theaters today and it looks
