WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE STARFLEET-REGION 7 COMMAND STAFF STARDATE: Friday,
July 18, 2008
A few words from the New RC
Welcome to what I hope will be a weekly 'buzz' for the members of Region 7,
keeping you informed of what the Command Staff is currently doing and we
hope to accomplish in the future. Communications is something I greatly
value
and "Subspace Chatter" will be one of our main tools through which we will
communicate to you.
I'd like to take the opportunity to once again thank the chapters who
supported me during the election as well as Todd and his team for helping
make said
election run smoothly and without drama. It does indeed show that this
region can work together! Let's continue that!
Within our first week, we have been hard at work with the transition from
the Hoolihan administration to my administration. I reestablished
communications
with the R7 staff via the appointment of Fleet Captain Jeff Victor of U.S.S.

Challenger as our Chief of Staff, who, in turn, has contacted the rest of
the staff to determine who wishes to remain in their positions and who
wishes
to move on. Already there has been a call for applications for the vacant
Shakedown Operations Officer position.
I have been in touch with our R7 Financial Officer, Mike Stein, who will
continue to function in that capacity. I've gone over the monthly reports he
has
been sending to R7 Command and both he and I assure the Region that these
and
future reports will be available to the membership upon request as well as a

financial report appearing in every future issue of "Comm Signals".
Speaking of "Comm Signals", all members of the Region 7 Staff (which
includes the Sector Chiefs) are now required to make monthly reports which
will be
reprinted in our bi-monthly publication. The membership has the right to
know
what we're doing!
Joe Dorffner, who is our R7 Communications Officer, will continue to helm "
Comm Signals" and will be looking at ways to improve the publication, just
as
he will be redoing our website. More on that in the coming weeks.
If there is anything I missed, I'm confident that VRC Bob Vosseller will
fill in any gaps! I hope the membership finds "Subspace Chatter" to be of
benefit to the region and that it serves its purpose by keeping us all up to
date
and on the same page. Until next week!

· My predecessor, Beryl Washington joked at Shore Leave last weekend
that she often misspoke her title and called herself the VCR. So being the
next generation in this spot, I guess that would make me the Regional
"Tivo".
Actually, I am very pleased to once again serve as VRC a post I held many
moons ago when Alex Rosenzweig was RC during the early 1990s. I am looking
forward to working with Wayne, Jeff and the entire regional staff as begin
to
implement the plans we set forth in our platform. That work includes looking

at the status of our chapters, our regional programs and our staff and
seeing
what is working, what isn't working and what can be improved on.
· To keep everyone informed, I recommended that we create this "
weekly buzz'' patterned from my job's corporate newsletter. It is no more or

less then a bulletin of news that will be coming at you each week and will
serve
to inform, remind, and share our thoughts. At times it may get repetitive
for there will be slow news weeks but there is always something going on and
it
never hurts to remind everyone of what is going on.
· Now that I've stepped up as VRC/TIVO I will be stepping down as
both R7 Recruiting Officer and NJ Sector Chief. I've held both jobs for a
long
time and have enjoyed them both. In the role of recruiting, Mary Ann Puglise

will be stepping up as that department's leader with Mike Allen serving as
her
assistant. Mary Ann has been my assistant for six years now and I have full
confidence in her ability to run the office and develop more programs,
coordinate convention recruitment operations and to get our chapters
involved in
recruiting efforts. She did a great job with creating our new recruitment
website which will soon be linked to the R7 website.
· As for New Jersey Sector Chief, I'd like those members of chapters
in New Jersey who feel they can perform this critical job, to contact Flt.
Capt. Jeff Victor. Share with him your ideas, your SF/Regional/Chapter
experience and why you think you'd make for a good candidate for this job.
As I have
one year left in my elected term, an election may be held for the unexpired
portion of that term. The regular sector elections will be held next year
for
the full two-year term. For now we'd like to know who might be interested in

serving in this capacity.
No Jump Con in August
· On the subject of the New Jersey sector and recruiting, a major
convention featuring some big name guests from Battlestar Galactica and
other
familiar shows of the genre was set for the first weekend of August. Sadly,
we
learned this week that all Jump Cons scheduled during the next few months
have been canceled. I know some R7 folks were going to also attend the one
in
Boston Mass. R7 was setup for a recruitment table operation that would have
brought together members of the Avenger, Challenger, Justice, Sovereign and
others. The con's website is still operating and is included below.
· For horror fans, check out the latest Monstermania Con set for
mid-August in Cherry Hill N.J. I know I plan to attend at least one day of
this
con and hope to see some of you there. Contact me and let me know if you
plan to stop by and on which day.

take the place of our full fledged newsletter but it will serve as yet

communications tool. As we know, life and this fan club provide rapid
changes and keeping up with it all sometimes gets difficult. This is an

is doing that you wish to share, send it to me for Sub-Space as well as
sending it to Joe for the R7 Website calendar and for Comm-Signals.
